Maiko Snow Resort Introduction

There are lots of resorts in and around Yuzawa where Snow Country Instructors offer ski lessons and snowboard lessons. The choice can be baffling, but we are happy to help, and will try to put information up about most of the options on this blog.

Maiko Snow Resort is about 15 minutes outside Yuzawa town. It is very close to Shiozawa-Ishiuchi IC off the Kanetsu Expressway if you are driving, or there is a shuttle bus from Echigo-Yuzawa Station.

Maiko Resort Spotlight on Snow Japan has a great collection of information about the area.

We love Maiko for lessons because of the magic carpet lifts. The resort is split into two side linked by a small lift, and both sides have a magic carpet. There are also a great selection of runs to progress to after that. Higher level skiers and boarders have a good sized resort to explore as well.

Maiko Snow Resort also has a distinctive looking hotel right on the slopes, the perfect base if you are looking for some ski-in, ski-out accommodation. If you are on a budget they also run a comfortable Japanese style lodge close by. If you are really on a budget you can rent a reclining armchair in their ski center overnight, take a dip in the onsen, and then be first out on the slopes in the morning. If you are trying to find a cheap accommodation option to ski in Japan this final option has you covered - serious good value and cheaper than any backpackers.

Maiko also offers a well-maintained terrain park, great facilities for kids & families, and night skiing.

It is definitely not as well known as it should be and is much better equipped than more famous resorts close by. It is a very worthy contender if you are looking for a place to ski and snowboard this winter.
