Another common question that we get asked is about snowfall at different times of year. The weather is always a tricky subject and predictions never seem to pan out. If you want to check out past snowfall data SnowJapan is an awesome resource.
The Yuzawa Now page has current snow conditions for the area updated daily throughout the season by a local resident. Also at the bottom of that page is a list of those reports going back over 10 years. If you want to see what snow was like in late March in previous seasons this will let you know (though as your financial adviser will warn you, past performance can not be used as a guide to future performance!)
The Observed Snowfall Data page gives a visual depiction of what the different SnowJapan reporters are seeing at village level in their locations. The graphs are interactive so you can have a bit of fun playing around with them (but do read the explanation of the graphs.)
Now we just have to sit back and content ourselves with long term weather forecasts, El Nino predictions, uninformed guesswork, and observations abou the height at which local mantises lay their eggs, as all eyes turn to this winter's snow prospects.
Our prediction - it's going to snow.
