Maiko is a great place for ski lessons or snowboard lessons, but for those looking for non-ski activities it is also a top pick. They have a whole page dedicated to their family activities (though not all of them run daily so if there is something you are particularly interested in, check the date.)
Smile Kids Park – Both the hotel area and the Day Return Ski Center have Smile Kids Parks. They are equipped with magic carpet lifts that take you up to the top of the slope and there are sledges you can use to whizz down, along with other fun stuff to play with. Children aged 3 and over are allowed in. It costs 500 yen and tickets can be bought at the entrance. Operates daily.
Sledging Course – A 400 meter course for sledges. Free to use though you pay to rent one of the snow racers – 200 yen for 1 time or 500 yen for 3 times. This is only operating on Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays.
Banana Boat on snow – Balance yourself on this snow banana boat and hold on tight as a snowmobile drags you around. Only operates on Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays. Costs 500 yen per person. Takes place at the Maiko area, at the bottom of the Maiko Family Lift.
Snowmobiling – Take a spin on a snowmobile and disrupt the peace and tranquility of the mountains. Only operates on Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays. The experience course lasts about 5 minutes and costs 1,000 yen per person. You have to be over 130cm to drive on your own. The Touring Course lasts around 20 minutes and costs 3,000 yen per person. Takes place at the Maiko area, at the bottom of the Maiko Family Lift.
