29 Aug Ishiuchi Maruyama Ski Resort Intro

The name might be bit of a mouthful, but this is one of our favorite resort in the region. (We often drop the Maruyama and just refer to it as Ishiuchi.)  It is just outside the bounds of Yuzawa town so actually part of Minami Uonuma city.

There are three different base areas. If you are driving from Yuzawa on Route 17 the first area that you reach is Hatsuka Ishi, then it is the Central or Chuo area, and the final one is the Kankou area. You want to make sure that you are on the right shuttle bus from central Yuzawa, or know where you are meeting your instructor.

Ishiuchi is part of the 3 Mountains area which is the interlinked resorts of Yuzawa Kogen, GALA Yuzawa, and Ishiuchi Maruyama. At the top point of the map above you can ski down a short slope into GALA. From GALA you can get across to Yuzawa Kogen and ski right down in the the center of Yuzawa town.

Ishiuchi is well known in the region for its well maintained terrain parks which are spread over different areas of the mountain. It also has a half pipe (and is the home resort of Sochi halfpipe medalist Ayana Onozuka.)

The night skiing in the Chuo area is some of the longest in Japan with the lights running from the top of the resort right down to the bottom.

There is a good selection of ski-in, ski-out accommodation. A popular option there is the self catered apartments run by Twin Tips.

We spend a great deal of time at Ishiuchi over the winter and know from experience that it has something to offer skiers and boarders at all levels.
