Lessons at Iwappara are two popular requests from our clients. It is a good little mountain to learn on, about 10 minutes drive from Echigo-Yuzawa Station, and rumour has it that it was originally set up by the American forces as a place to teach their troops to ski. It is well know for its wide, gentle slopes that allow plenty of room for practice.
The slopes at Iwappara
Iwappara has two entry points; Resort Center 1 is at the very bottom of the resort, and Resort Center 2 is a bit further up the hill.
Iwappara has a good selection of ski-in, ski-out accommodation. Many of our clients rave about staying at Sierra Resort. They are right in the middle of the slope and have huge windows with some of the best views in the area. The staff are super-helpful and will make sure you have a wonderful stay.
Iwappara Ski Resort usually has a small terrain park with a few jumps and rails. They have very good facilities for children, with a well-equipped Kids’ Paradise complete with magic carpet lift, sledging and other play equipment. Iwappara also has a long sledging course under one of the main lifts. You can ride the lift in your normal shoes carrying your sledge and slide all the way back down to the bottom on the special course. For those not skiing it is a great opportunity to play in the snow.
Iwappara also have night skiing.
If you are having a ski lesson at Iwappara or snowboard lesson at Iwappara please make sure that you understand the meeting point. The free resort shuttle can drop you at either Resort Center. [In past years there has also been a request pick up service that will fetch you from your hotel in Yuzawa which is really convenient.]
