Getting to Yuzawa

Getting to Yuzawa

One of the great things about coming to the snow in Yuzawa is that it is so convenient. By bullet train on the Joetsu Line from Tokyo or Ueno Station you can be here in about 75 minutes. Yuzawa actually has two bullet train stations: Echigo-Yuzawa Station in the center of the town, and GALA Yuzawa Station in the base building of GALA Yuzawa ski resort. Not bad for a small mountain ski town.

If you need to check train schedules and costs, the site we usually use is Hyperdia. Enter your closest station and Echigo-Yuzawa as the options and it will do all the hardwork for you. In the results if you click on the Interval timetable button it will list all the trains on that line throughout the day so you can find the one that works best for you.

There are also local line trains that run to Echigo-Yuzawa Station. They cost about half as much as the bullet train but take twice as long.

If you are coming by road there is a highway bus that stops at Yuzawa Interchange. This is the same exit you would use if you were driving yourself up the Kanetsu Expressway. If you are avoiding the toll roads then Yuzawa is located on Route 17.
