13 Sep Joetsu Kokusai Ski Resort Introduction

Joetsu Kokusai is a large resort about 20 minutes drive up the valley from Echigo-Yuzawa Station. It has a very distinctive hotel on the slopes which you can see from the approach road. The resort is spread out so there is lots to explore and is suitable for all levels of skier and snowboarder. Joetsukokusai Skijomae is the JR Joetsu Line station at the bottom of the resort.

Snow permitting, Joetsu Kokusai is planning to open on Saturday 5th December 2015.

The resort has a color system that is a bit different to most other resorts around so a little bit of care is needed. At Joetsu Kokusai red colored slopes are for beginners and green slopes are intermediate.

There are some great views available from different points in the resort. The way it is spread out makes you feel as if you are covering lots of distance as you ski around.

The big hotel on the slopes is the Green Plaza Joetsu which is a good choice if you are looking for ski-in, ski-out accommodation.

The resort is managed by the same people as Iwappara so they often have similar events and share lift passes. Like Iwappara, it has good facilities for families and children, with a large dedicated play area on the snow. It also has a good terrain park and a half pipe.

We used to be based close to Joetsu Kokusai so have spent a lot of time skiing here and love to show people around. There are plenty of slopes for all abilities and it is always a fun place to ski or board.
