07 Mar Beginner Ski Lessons at Yuzawa Nakazato
The first ski or snowboard experience is so important because this is when people decide if they want to keep going with the sports. A lesson with an experienced instructor gives you the best chance of enjoying your time on the snow. Another key choice is the resort. You can learn to ski or snowboard at any resort, but they are not all created equal when it comes to beginner lessons.
Gentle slopes and lots of space are great, and when learning to ski for the first time the most important is a magic carpet lift – a conveyor belt lift on the surface of the snow. It effortlessly transports you to the top of the slope so that you can ski back down. If you go to a resort with a good beginner slope like Yuzawa Kogen Family slope and it does not have a magic carpet, you end up using most of your energy walking up the slope between each slide. Iwappara Ski Area has been one of our best recommendations for beginner ski lessons because of the magic carpet in the Kids Paradise.
Yuzawa Nakazato
Much of the hype in Yuzawa and Minami Uonuma before this winter was about the new lift at Ishiuchi. Lost in this noise was the addition of a new magic carpet lift at Nakazato. It is much longer than anything else in the area and is great if you are just learning to ski or snowboard.

The magic carpet lift at Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort
This long magic carpet lift takes you to the top of a great slope for learning. Build your confidence here and then you will be ready for the next step of riding the chairlift to the top of a beginner slope.
If you want to give yourself the best possible start to your skiing career this is possibly the best place in the whole of Yuzawa for beginner ski lessons at the moment. Yuzawa Nakazato tends not to get too busy, and there are plenty of accommodation options close by if you would like to stay close to the snow. Angel Grandia is a popular choice and there are also plenty of small, family run lodges in Nakazato.
Spring seems to have come early to Snow Country this winter, but there is still plenty of time left and it is a good time to learn to ski.
