Summer Skiing at Kagura

Summer Skiing at Kagura

We are into July now so we only have to wait until late November until the first resort in the Yuzawa area opens up for Winter 2018/19. We’ll update opening dates for 2018 as the season draws closer. In the meantime, if you are desperate for your fix of skiing and snowboarding again, the summer skiing at Kagura opens up again this weekend.

Full details on the Kagura website.

If you are not familiar with summer skiing at Kagura it is a plastic mat down the main course at Mitsumata. Over a kilometre long, with 120 metres of bumps off to one side, as well as a pipe and box. It is a different feeling from skiing on snow but good fun none-the-less. There is accommodation up there at Wadagoya, and you can enjoy a BBQ at the Snowman Cafe. There is usually a mountain bike course up there too if you prefer your thrills on 2 wheels.

Gala Yuzawa also have a summer ski course which opens up later this month.

There is quite a bit to do around here in summer if you are looking to escape the summer heat, with frisbee golf at Maiko, a long inflatable waterslide at NASPA, and the town leisure pool and waterslides too. Not forgetting the Fuji Rock Festival at the end of this month too which sees thousands of people descend on Yuzawa.

We’re keeping busy tracking down some additional experienced ski instructors and snowboard coaches to complement our team for the winter season. They’ll be in Yuzawa and ready to give lessons as soon as the first lifts start running along with the familiar faces of our returning ski instructors and snowboard instructors. If you need any help booking your winter trip, or have questions on Snow Country, Yuzawa, or Minami Uonuma, we are always happy to oblige. Feel free to contact us. We look forward to seeing you when the Japanese snow arrives.
