Time for Spring Skiing

Time for Spring Skiing

The temperatures have risen and it feels like spring has arrived here in the mountains. Once we get that shift to spring around Japan many people forget about skiing and snowboarding and start to look at their green season hobbies, but there are plenty of weeks left in the ski season around Yuzawa.

We’ve had plenty of snowfall this winter so most resorts have a deep base that will take a while to disappear. Lower resorts in the region will close towards the end of March to the beginning of April. (Late March for Yuzawa Kogen, Yuzawa Park, Iwappara, and early April for Ishiuchi Maruyama, Joetsu Kokusai, Yuzawa Nakazato, Kandatsu Snow Resort, NASPA Ski Garden, Maiko, and Naeba.)

Resorts that are a little higher will be open until the end of Golden Week (GALA Yuzawa, and Tashiro are planning to close on May 5th), and the season will finally draw to a close when Kagura closes its final lift on May 22nd. Time it right and you can enjoy skiing/snowboarding and cherry blossom viewing in the same day!

Spring is a great time to ski with warmer temperatures so perfect for those that are not keen on the cold but would still like to get out on the slopes. The snow tends to be a little slower as it is sugary spring snow so easy to manage too.

Our team of ski and snowboard instructors are here until the lifts stop moving so it is never to late to get yourself a lesson.
