Nakazato is a small township that is part of Yuzawa town which found out past Iwappara. There are a whole bunch of small lodges and minshuku out there, as well as the very large Hotel Angel Grandia Echigo Nakazato.

The Angel Grandia hotel is becoming a popular choice with many internationals as it has a wide variety of room types, an impressive buffet, and is technically ski-in, ski-out. Due to its large size it often has availability, even when other hotels seems ful,l so is great for those peak winter periods.

The Hotel Angel Grandia sits on Nakazato Snow Wood Ski Area. This is a small area with two lifts. It is not a bad place to spend half a day if it is your first time and has a cheap lift ticket for hotel guests.

Yuzawa Nakazato Ski Area

Just down the road from Angel Grandia and from Nakazato Snow Wood is Yuzawa Nakazato Ski Area. It is a much larger ski resort with terrain for all levels. It has a magic carpet lift which is perfect for beginner ski lessons, or for sledging/tubing if you are not skiing or snowboarding. They have some great courses for beginners and kids, with tracks through the trees, and some interesting terrain courses. Yuzawa Nakazato is a much better location for ski or snowboard lessons in our opinion.

Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort is run by the same people who operate Maiko Snow Resort, which is another great place to learn to ski or snowboard. The Yuzawa Nakazato Ski Center is right next to Echigo Nakazato Station which is on the local Joetsu line which connects Echigo Yuzawa Station to Minakami. Inside the Nakazato Ski Center which connects to the station is the Volcom Cafe.

Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort and Nakazato Snow Wood do not share any lifts and do not have the same lift ticket. You need different lift tickets for both resorts. If you are trying to get from one resort to the other it is possible to walk along the snow between the two resorts, or down the road. There is also a shuttle bus from Hotel Angel Grandia.
