23 Dec Timeless Yukiguni Accommodations
One of the best things about coming to this region is the range of accommodation options available. There is something for everyone at all budgets, from rental apartments and houses, classic ryokans, family-run lodges, and hotels. The latest travel initiative in the Snow Country Region is a new website that highlights the ryokans that are keeping the traditions of the area alive.
The website and project are called Timeless Yukiguni. You can also find Timeless Yukiguni on Facebook.
The ryokans and boutique hotels that have been selected for the project are all heavily influenced by the culture of the region. They each have something unique to offer, and are helping to keep alive the food, traditions, and way of life of the heavy snow region. Often this involves taking something from the past and updating it for the modern era.
If you are looking for a fantastic stay in one of the best ryokans in the area, as well as the chance to learn a little more about life here, then selecting from one of these is going to be a great option.
They are dotted around the whole region, in Minakami, Matsunoyama Onsen, Tsunan, Minami Uonuma, and Yuzawa. If you are coming in winter this opens up the option of taking lessons at a few of the less well-known ski resorts that are around, as most of them have a ski area close by.
There are some great images on the Timeless Yukiguni website, so if you can’t physically travel right now, enjoy a bit of armchair planning for your next winter vacation. (Or come for a visit in any of the other seasons too!)
